The OECD's recommended affect question for time-use diaries: how pleasant or unpleasant a moment was, from −3 to +3. Designed to be answered for each diary episode, as soon after it as possible; in an experience-sampling study it can be asked about the moment of each prompt, alongside where the person is, what they are doing and who they are with.
Source
OECD (2025), Box 2.8 (time use diary measurement), pp. 44–45. The formulation used by Istat (Italy) and earlier by INSEE (France).
Usage
Report the mean by activity type or population group. Conceptually similar to an affect balance. A U-index can be computed as the share of time with a negative rating. Answers refer to the episode, not the day as a whole.
