A 5-item subscale from the Medical Outcomes Study screening for general mental health (anxiety, depression, loss of behavioural/emotional control, and psychological wellbeing).
Scoring
Recode each item to 0–100 scale, then average. Items 1, 2, 4 are negative affect (reverse the recoding). Score <60 indicates distress.
