10 items · Time frame: Today
An evening diary: how much of today a person felt happy, worried, calm, sad, angry, joyful, tired and stressed (0–10), and how satisfied they are with how they used their time today.
Adapted wording
Adapted from the OECD affect module (Box 2.5) for an evening diary: the recall period changed from "yesterday" to "today"; the frequency anchors are kept. The time-use item is adapted from the OECD's examples of general satisfaction with time use (2025, p. 73) to refer to today. The OECD's ninth affect item (smiling or laughing) is not included.

Adapted from OECD (2025), Box 2.5 (affect extended module), pp. 37–39, and the time-use satisfaction examples on p. 73.
Scoring
Daily affect balance from the short list = mean(happy, calm) − mean(worried, sad); positive and negative affect from all eight items as in the OECD module. Report the time-use item separately (mean; share scoring 4 or less).
